From the clan Xiong, Brenda Song's paternal grandparents changed their last name to Song when they migrated to the United States of America.
 
Brenda spent the first six years growing up in the beautiful Carmichael, California. It was decided in her sixth year that they wanted to support an acting career for her. So she and her mother moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams. It was a rough two years before the rest of her family finally joined her and her mom. Brenda Song started off in child fashion modeling. This was due to a lucky break as a modeling agent that was working for a modeling school spotted her in a shopping mall in San Francisco. She was five or six when she did her first Little Caesars commercial. She was then picked for a Barbie commercial. Along the way she started taking the martial arts known as Taekwondo and earned herself a black belt.

She had a part in Requiem, a 1995 film by actress Elizabeth Sung as an AFI student at the time. Song played "Fong" at an early age and Tamlyn Tomita played the adult counter part. She made her theatrical film debut in Santa With Muscles in 1996, starring Hulk Hogan (a professional wrestler).

In 1999 she came to Nickelodeon and began her career with them in Nickelodeon's 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd.

She had parts in 7the Heaven, Judging Amy and Bette. It was on Bette that she met Ashley Tisdale.

She starred in Disney's 2000 movie The Ultimate Christmas Present were she won the award for Best Performance in a TV Movie Comedy, Supporting Actress.

In 2002 her appearance on The Bernie Mac Show gave her a nomination for Best Performance in a TV Movie Comedy, Guest Starring Young Actress.

Brenda continued to make guest appearances on the Disney Channel Show. She was on, That's So Raven as well as other American sitcom roles. She appeared in "Get a Clue" in 2002 with an overwhelming one million viewers, this was a first for any Disney Channel Original Movie.

She had her recurring role as Tia in "Phil of the Future" in 2004 and 2005 where she had seven appearances.

She then had a co-star role in Disney's Stuck in the Suburbs. The TV premiere had around 3.7 million viewers.

After the overwhelming success of Stuck in the Suburbs, She posed for the cover of Teen People magazine with Lindsay Lohan.

Then in 2005 Brenda was picked for the role of Yayme Londontipton the spoiled heiress to the Tipton fortune in "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody."
